African Young People: How To Achieve Success Before The End Of The YearJavnyuy Joybert
One prevalent thing in everyone’s life is the willingness to become successful; I haven’t seen anyone who doesn’t wish to become successful.
Perhaps you’ve been craving to achieve success since the inception of this year, but it seems that dream is far from reality. In this article, I will show you how you can still achieve success before this year is over.
However, before I proceed to tell you the first thing you need do to succeed this year, it is important that I first explain what success is about for a better understanding of it. So, what is success?
The truth is, success has no universal meaning. Yes, it doesn’t. This is one fact I want you to understand about success today. Success is relative; its definition depends on the person defining it. If you clearly understand this fact, then becoming successful won’t be difficult for you.
How then can you achieve success for the rest of the year? What is the first thing you need to do that will make you become successful?
1. Define Your Own Success
One day, while I was having a conversation with the CEO of a popular Logo company in Nigeria , the man suddenly asked me; ‘What is your definition of success?’ The response I gave the man made us friends till today. Why? Because I gave him a definition that is unique to me.
Before you can become successful in any field you’re in life, you first need to define what success means to you. You need to define what you believe success is about.
Now, it is not about what I believe success is, or what your mentor believes success is, it is absolutely about what you believe success is! What does success mean to you? This is a question you need to answer if you must achieve success before this year runs out.
This is crucial because what success means to Mr. A may be different from what it means to Mr. B. Hence it is imperative for anyone who wants to achieve success to first determine what success truly means to him.
However, when you’re defining your own success, ensure your definition doesn’t contradict the etymological (original) meaning of the word ‘success’.
Success is coined from a Latin word “‘successus’ which means, an advance, a coming up; a good result, happy outcome.” So, whatever definition you give must revolves around that original meaning.
In other words, when you try to define your own definition for success, ask yourself these questions: Does that definition involves adding positive impact to people’s lives? Does it involve moral, and ethical values? Etc.
Being truly successful resolves around positive things. It has nothing to do with negative things. That is why anyone who steals to become rich is not a successful person according to the original definition of success.
What has helped me to achieve some level of success in life is because I defined what success means to me. I gained clarity about what my success is about and I focus on that definition in everything I do. I’m sure that if you do this too, you will be half way to your success destination.
Remember to be the best version of yourself.
