What to do After the Interview: For Young Africans


How you handle the post interview process is very important as important as what you did during the interview. Your job hunt process is not over yet after the interview process here are some tips i will recommend you do after an interview to help get the job offer. In Africa job seekers have continued to maintain the same methods of job seeking and interview process but i will advice you to be exceptional and do these things after your actual interview

1. Get the Interviewers Contact Information and thank him/her
Before leaving the interview venue, do your best to professionally get your interviewers contact information and thank him/her for his or her time

2. Ask how to follow up
Before leaving the venue as the hiring officer or interviewers these very important questions
– What is the timeline for making a decision?
– Whom should you follow up, when and how?

3. Follow-up
Following up after the interview will give you great difference between you and other job seekers seeking the same position.

4. Write an amazing Thank You email
A thank you email or note can get you the job. Do your best to send a thank you email on the same day of your interview. In the email briefly explain some of the things you feel make you better qualified for the job, take some time to briefly address some awkward questions you think you could not fully answer during the interview time. If possible send a link to some of your articles online, avoid negative statements and repeating yourself ( I will also recommend a handwritten thank you note especially in most countries in Africa)
Phone calls are a great follow up too

5. Prepare for another interview
Companies are very keen about who join the team this may cause the hiring process to take time and you never know when they might need a second interview to finalize their decision. Do learn more about the company after the actual interview so as to demonstrate your deeper knowledge of the company during the second interview
